Cold Yes - Northern Lights No !

After overdosing on the splendours of Reine and getting back late to our accommodation last night, today was a designated lie in day with the forecast for pretty heavy snow showers later on in the afternoon.

In between whiteouts we escaped for a quick reconnaissance of our picturesque peninsular looking for potentially scenic Northern Lights vantage points (tonights forecast was actually for some activity) that wouldn't require us to stop in the middle of a damned road to take photos which was often the case on Lofoten because of the minimal amount of non snow covered pull over points !

Having marked out a few locations we stocked up with supplies from Leknes and then we settled in for a lazy afternoon hitting the sack early and setting our alarms for 2.30a.m. !

Somehow i succeeded in dragging a reluctant Monika out of bed when the alarm went off ! Gathering up our camera equipment we drove around the now deserted snow covered peninsular. Hopping out at our preselected vantage points we waited in the icy darkness (it felt marginally warmer than putting yourself in a freezer ! ) until it was evident that the lights were not going to make an appearance tonight !

A little disappointed and with only a few night time photos to show for our effort, we drove back to our accommodation plunging into our welcome warm bed around 3.30a.m. allowing our frozen bodies a few good hours to thaw out - the search for the Northern lights will continue as soon as we are able to move again !
